Last year, the Cape Fear Council of Governments, along with a group of local agencies called the Lower Cape Fear Sustainable Communities Consortium, drafted and submitted a grant application to the federal government. They were selected to receive a million dollar grant to found a regional growth and sustainability program for the Southeastern North Carolina area. Today, 13 agencies (and growing) have worked together to develop this program, which we call FOCUS. We are proud to introduce this initiative to the entire community, across our diverse populations, commerce and culture.
Together, this diverse group has come up with six (6) FOCUS elements in which to funnel our region’s efforts and projects. These categories designed with the community’s best interest as a whole, not as individual segments, counties or neighborhoods. They are: Economy, Environment, Health, Housing, Opportunity and Transportation. The FOCUS areas were carefully selected to address major themes that affect everyone in the community, and include all types of people and businesses.
The most crucial component in the FOCUS machine is people. The initiative was founded on the belief that together, people from all walks of life may unite their purposes to most effectively bring positive change to the community, laying the plans for a future of perpetual development, sustenance and healthy living. We have laid the groundwork. But it only works if you share your ideas.
